Grady Chambers is the author of the poetry collection North American Stadiums. He left teaching for a job as a receptionist at a nonprofit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and that has made all the difference.


Marian Crotty played the clarinet in her college’s marching band and wind ensemble. The author of the short-story collection What Counts as Love, she lives in Baltimore, where she teaches at Loyola University Maryland.


Andre Dubus III is the author of seven books, including the novel The House of Sand and Fog, the memoir Townie, and his most recent novel, Gone So Long. He teaches at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He lives in Newbury, Massachusetts, where he built his family’s home and where squirrels now nest in the walls behind his bed.


Michele Herman’s first novel, Save the Village, is forthcoming in 2022. She lives in New York City and, in a moment of madness six years ago, signed up for a month-long poetry-writing marathon. Her second poetry chapbook, Just Another Jack: The Private Lives of Nursery Rhymes, will be published next year. Here’s to moments of madness.


Jane Hilberry teaches creativity and innovation at Colorado College and is happiest when she’s in the classroom with her students. Her most recent book of poems is Still the Animals Enter.


Mark Leviton is reading Thomas Mann, binge-watching 1930s screwball comedies, and trying out new vegetarian recipes in Nevada City, California.


Yehoshua November is the author of the poetry collections Two Worlds Exist, which was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award, and God’s Optimism, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Two of his siblings are poets as well — a source of pride and confusion for the entire family. He lives in Teaneck, New Jersey.


Carl Sagan was an astronomer and author who cofounded the Planetary Society, a nonprofit organization for space exploration. He died in 1996.


Laura Price Steele loves good socks and hot tea. Her work has appeared in Ploughshares, Shenandoah, and Orion. After spending eight years in North Carolina, she recently relocated to Missoula, Montana, with her wife and daughter.


Meg Thompson lives in Wellington, Ohio, and teaches English online for incarcerated students. Her work has appeared in McSweeney’s and DIAGRAM.



Thomas Adams is a photographer who lives near the Ohio River in southern Indiana.


Cloey Ashworth is studying studio art at Louisiana Tech University.


Edwin Barkdoll lives in Down East Maine with his wife, three dogs, and a very opinionated cat.


Jessica Bazán Benítez is a Spanish citizen who currently lives in South Africa. She does graphic design for money and animal rescue for the love of it. You can follow her on Instagram: @jessbillustration.


Hanna Bradbury lives in Crested Butte, Colorado. Her hobbies include tending to an edible garden, arranging flowers for still-life photos, and mountain biking.


William Carter’s photographs are in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany. He lives in San Mateo, California.


Peter Ingrasselino recently retired as a dialysis nurse and is teaching himself to play the saxophone so he can share the oldies from the sixties with his grandchildren. He lives in Summerville, South Carolina.


Matt Kollasch has been keeping a COVID photo diary since March 2020. He lives in Berlin, Germany.

Laurie Minor lives in Pelham, Ontario, Canada, and is the author of four books of photography, including Jump and Moments with Max. She collects vintage cameras and nineteenth-century photographs. She took this month’s cover photo on a pier at Lake Ontario, where she approached a young couple walking their dog.
