Edward Conlon is the author of the memoir Blue Blood and a former detective with the New York City Police Department. His writing has appeared in The New Yorker, Harper’s, and Esquire.


Etheridge Knight began writing poetry while serving an eight-year prison sentence. He received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation, and his collection Belly Song and Other Poems was nominated for the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. He died in 1991.


Jim Kuhnhenn has spent half of his forty-year journalism career in Washington, D.C., as a newspaper bureau chief, editor, and congressional and White House correspondent. He is the 2019–2020 Press Freedom Fellow for the National Press Club Journalism Institute. He lives in Silver Spring, Maryland.


Natalie Kusz is the author of the memoir Road Song and the recipient of a Whiting Award, a Bush Foundation Fellowship, and other honors. Her Plan B career would have been hairdressing, and on certain writing days she wonders why she went with Plan A. She lives in Spokane, Washington.


Mark Leviton was caught shoplifting a five-cent pack of baseball cards in 1961 and was let off with a warning. He has committed his share of minor crimes since but has never been arrested. He lives in Nevada City, California.


Jim Moore’s ninth collection of poetry is forthcoming from Graywolf Press in 2021. Despite last winter’s polar vortex, he continues to live in Minneapolis, Minnesota.


Jennifer Swift lives in Washington, D.C., where she is grateful to have a room of her own. She recently completed a masters in fiction writing at Johns Hopkins University and is working on a novel about an unconventional woman living in World War II–era Australia.


Marion Winik is the author of eight works of nonfiction, most recently the memoir The Baltimore Book of the Dead. She teaches writing in the MFA program at the University of Baltimore.


Saint James Harris Wood is a writer, musician, and father of three sons. He will soon be released from prison after serving more than eighteen years for bank robbery.



Edwin Barkdoll is a veterinarian who lives in Surry, Maine, with his wife, three dogs, and a cat.


Niki Boon lives in rural New Zealand, where she is trying to replicate her wild and adventurous upbringing for her children.


Morgan Ellis lives in Media, Pennsylvania, with her husband and a collection of houseplants she can’t seem to keep alive. She has a passion for thunderstorms and road trips up the coast.


Michael Galinsky is a photographer who lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is at work on a book called The Decline of Mall Civilization using photos he took on a cross-country trip in 1989.


R.A. McBride has recently been using her Wista camera to take photographs on Fire Island. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.


Robert Meyer’s photographs have been widely published even though he still shoots black-and-white film and works out of a darkroom. He and his wife bike in France, hike in Utah, and escape to the woods that surround their home in rural Wisconsin.


Laurie Minor’s photographs have appeared in Canadian Geographic, Photo Life, and Cat Fancy. She lives in Ridgeville, Ontario, Canada.
